Why therapy for men?

Everything at once, and no one to tell.

Many men find it hard to know where to start, and a space shaped around them can make the first step a little easier.

The expectations men grew up with have shifted. Be the provider. Be the strong one. Keep it to yourself. Some of that needed to change, and the move towards equality at home and at work is something most men welcome.

But the old expectations faded without much to replace them. Many men now feel they're meant to be everything at once: earner and hands-on dad, steady and open, capable and in touch. When work changes, a relationship ends or the kids need you less, it's understandable to lose sight of who you are.

Therapy here isn't about going backwards. It's a calm, unhurried space to work out who you want to be now.

Not a man, or this isn't quite you? If work is at the heart of it, you're very welcome at Out of Office, our therapy for working life, which is open to everyone.

Break the first rule

You know the rule. Nobody had to teach it. Don't talk about it.
So you didn't. You coped. You got on with it. You were fine.

Most men pick up the rule early. Keep it to yourself. Don't make a fuss. Don't be a burden. Crack on.

It works, until it doesn't. The pressure has to go somewhere, so it goes into your sleep, your temper, your relationships, the drink you didn't used to need.

Therapy is the one place the rule doesn't apply. You can say the thing you've never said out loud, to someone who won't flinch, won't judge and won't tell anyone else. No need to have the right words or know where to start.

Break the rule. That's usually where things start to change.
